He was predeceased by : his parents, Mary Elizabeth and Gilbert William Uhl; his wife Margaret; and his grandson Cory Thurber. He is survived by : his son Marty Thurber (Tammy); his grandchildren, Kristen Morris (Wes), Cody Thurber (Christine), Nichole Olson and Michael Olson (Kristen); and his great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Harrison, Cooper, Serenity, Baylynn, Kobe, Ashton and Cayde. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Second United Methodist Church (1524 Western Ave, Knoxville, TN 37921). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
