He was predeceased by: his wife Olive Stratton Moore; his son Danny J. Moore; his parents, James R. Moore and Nicie Brown Moore; and his siblings, Charlie, Lacey, Walter, Oscar, Maynard, Grace and Evelyn.

He is survived by: his son James R. Moore III (Helen) of LaFollette; his grandchildren, Marla Ann Moore of Knoxville and James Reese Moore IV (Ashley) of LaFollette; his great grandchildren, Bailey, Carter, Daniel, Justin and Carrie; and his close friend Marshall McKamey.
