He was predeceased by : his parents, Silas Prater and Catherine Prater (Hagner); his stepmother Genetta Prater; his sister Nancy Hart; and his stepsister Gwen Smith.

He is survived by : his wife Robin Prater (Gattis); his children, Leslie Kerr (Michael), Bryant Prater (Alicia), Randa Prater, Joshua Prater (Krystal) and Tyler Prater; his sisters, Linda Stephens, Deborah Norman (Parks), Kathryn Smith (Terry), Barbara Allen, Sharon Bobo (Danny) and Cynthia Fanning (Jerry); his stepsisters, Teresa Hensley and Kim Smith; and his grandchildren, Mason Kerr, Landon Kerr, Macie Kerr and Gannon Prater. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, friends.

Jill (Corbin) Garrett wrote a sympathy message

“Silas was a dear sweet friend to me in high school. He was always friendly and smiling whenever I saw him. Later in life when I visited my mom at Countyline Church of Christ, it was so nice to see him again and find that he was still the same sweet, kind person as when we were teenagers. I know you all will miss him so much. “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”‭‭ 2 Thes ‭3:16‬”
