He was predeceased by: his parents, Elder Edward Newby and Mamie Tharpe; and his sister Anna Laura of Washington. He is survived by: his former wife Carolyn Dukes; his wife Louise Jackson Newby; his children, Terri L. Newby-Mearidy (Robert), Karen Newby, Amelia Newby and Edward Newby; his stepson Robert C. Hall; his grandchildren, Sophie and Miles Newby; his sisters-in-law, Priscilla Gilmore (Charles) and Frances Jackson; and his close friend Bernadine Freeman. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews.
