Greg was the retired owner/partner of Grinder Haizlip Construction which he built alongside his partner Henry Haizlip of Memphis, Tennessee. Raised in Frayser, he graduated from Frayser High School in 1969 and started his career in the construction trade as a carpenter for S&W Construction. He then moved into the equipment rental world, building Grinder and White Equipment Rental. In the early 90's he sold out and after a brief retirement started Jameson Grinder Construction with Gary Jameson of Memphis, Tennessee. A few years later Henry Haizlip came on board and the rest, they say, is history.
Greg was an avid outdoorsman and spent countless hours with his sons, cousins, and friends hunting and fishing all over West Tennessee, North Mississippi, and Eastern Arkansas. He was a longtime member of many clubs in our area, Hatchie Coon being one of the more famous duck clubs. He enjoyed hunting ducks in the winter and turkeys in the spring. From his young years going turkey hunting in Shelby Forrest with his grandfather, Noble Grinder of Frayser, to his later trips to Argentina hunting ducks with Pat Pitt, he never lost his passion for the outdoors and desire to shoot one more time.
His love for family, the outdoors, and the chance to "put a deal together" was his driving force. He was always available for friends and family to help figure out a problem, navigate the troubled waters of business and life, and most of all tell you point blank just how he felt and what you were doing right or wrong.
To say he'll be missed is not even close. The hole felt in our hearts is beyond measure.
