He was predeceased by: his wife Jean Linton Murphree; his parents, Clyde Murphree and Maudie Burt Murphree; his stepmother Ludie Porter Murphree; his son Victor Murphree; his granddaughter Calista Jean Whitten; and his siblings, Bernice Sykes, Eltis Murphree, Prentiss Murphree and Dennis Murphree.
He is survived by: his children, Sherry Murphree Whitten (Michael) of Killen, AL and Christopher Murphree (Penny) of Florida; his sister-in-law Faye Williams; and his grandchildren, Meredith Whitten and Crystal Murphree.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials may be sent to Longview Heights Baptist Church Mission Fund, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
