He was predeceased by : his parents, Maggie Lee Smith and Nehemiah Hayes Sr.; and his wife Annie L. Hayes. He is survived by : his children, Wanda Hayes and Melvin Jackson; his stepchildren, Velma Crumpton and Anthony Crumpton; his grandchildren, Raven Wallace and Erick Clayton, Sr.; his great grandchild Erick Clayton Jr. (Nichelle); his aunts, Marion Deadmon of Houston and Jewel Deadmon of Los Angeles; and his friend Mark Nunnally. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
