He was predeceased by : his parents, Joe Fate and Gladys Shupe Gentry; his son-in-law Dr. Donald Garrett; his brothers-in-law, Donald McCoy and Gene Odum; and his nephew Mike McCoy.

He is survived by : his girls-daughters, Kim Gentry Garrett and Becky Gentry Eastridge (Johnny); his granddaughters, Leanna Garrett (Lucas Wright) of Mtn and Katie Timbs of Mtn; his sisters, Betty and Julia "Babe"; his aunt Dora Williams; his niece Cathy Thomas (Paul); his nephews, Curtis McCoy (Lisa), Ricky McCoy and Bradley Odum; and his cousin Roger Fenner.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joe Ray's memory to Johnson County FFA Alumni 348 Fairground Lane Mountain City, TN 37683.
