He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank R. Patterson and Millie Patterson; his wife Patsy JoAnn Patterson; his daughters, Tywania Patterson and Lizzy Bryson; and his sister Mattie Harris.
He is survived by: his children, Detra Simpson (Tim) of Antioch, TN, Renee Patterson Leftwich of Charlottesville, VA and Robert Bryson (Donna) of Halifax, PA; his siblings, Lola Harris and Frank Patterson (Rhoda); and his close friend Forrestine Hardy of Murfreesboro, TN. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren.
