He was predeceased by: his parents, John Anthony Hobbs and Mary Kittrell Hobbs; his parents-in-law, Martin A. and Norma Byrd; and his sister-in-law Julie Byrd Nixon.

He is survived by: his wife Sandra Byrd Hobbs; his children, James Barrett Hobbs (Tammy) and Nealy Marie Hobbs; his grandson Harrison Lynn Hobbs; his brothers, Joseph Hobbs (Elizabeth) and John C. Hobbs; and his siblings-in-law, Joan B. Coode (Patrick), Mike Byrd, Patrick Byrd and John Byrd (Ginger). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
