He was predeceased by: his grandson Robert Overton; his parents, Bruce Proffitt and Golden Proffitt; and his siblings, Helen Clinton, Lonas Proffitt, Dale Proffitt and Creed Proffitt.
He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Douglass Proffitt; his children-in-law, Richard Elliott (Chas), Donatta Proffitt (Roy Lafollette), Patti Flynn (Todd), Karen Elliott Arwood (Ronnie), Connie Mcmahan and Shelia Ogle; his grandchildren, Wade Killam, Hunter Killam, Brandon McMahan, Shane McCarter, Phillip McMahan (Jenny), Ronnie Huskey (Becky), Zachary Flynn, Amanda Maples, Ashleigh Elliott, Miranda Kemp (Brian), Jodi Arwood Sims (Logan), Sunshine Reed Austin (Johnny) and Heather Williams; his great great grandchild Clay Edward; his sisters, Varnell Proffitt, Nadine Oakley, Roger Barnes, Kent Woods and Scott Catlett; his nephew Larry Dale Proffitt (Penny); and his friend Trinity Webb. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Atchley Funeral Home to benefit the family.
