He was predeceased by : his parents, Garrett Howland Cawthorne, Sr. and Mary Agnes Edwards; and his siblings, Zeda, Theodore, Geniece and Celia Cawthorne.

He is survived by : his children, Kevin Howland Cawthorne of Shelbyville and Katrina Lee Cawthorne of Fishers, Indiana; his grandchildren, Alexander Dale Cawthorne, Chase Cameron Cawthorne, Kalista Lee Foster and Blake Anthony Heitzman; and his siblings, Jesse Cawthorne of Woodbury and Sturgeon Cawthorne of Chattanooga.
