He was predeceased by: his parents, James Howell, Sr. and Sarah McCrady Peebles; his wife Chloe Winn Peebles; and his daughter-in-law Laurie Kite Peebles. He is survived by: his children, Dr. J. Howell Peebles, III of Crossville, Winn Peebles (Jeannie) of Sevierville and Chloe Hannah (Paul) of Franklin; his grandchildren, Alice Hawes (Jake), Howell (Lisa), Susan Headrick (Martin), Heather Chance, Tucker Hannah (Julie), Duncan Hannah and Gentry Hannah; and his great grandchildren, Sawyer, Ava Hawes, Lucy Peebles, Megan, Emily Headrick, Camden and Lachlan Hannah.
