He is survived by : his former life partner Susan Ellen Moore; his wife Ruth Jayne Ball Atkinson; his daughter Christa (John Dinubilo); his grandchildren, Sophia and Noah; his stepsons, Brian Bogolea and Bob (Christy Verdoni); his grandson Brandon; and his siblings, Fred Atkinson and Alma (Stan Urbanek). He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
