He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert Amos "Gruder" Fitzgerald and Bertha Bristow Fitzgerald; his former life partner Linda Fitzgerald; and his son James Kyle Fitzgerald. He is survived by : his wife Anne Richardson Fitzgerald; his children, Susan Layton (Mark) and Michael Bynum (Karen); his siblings, LaDell Martin (Robert), Sue Wylie (Thomas) and Gary Fitzgerald (Kaye); his grandchildren, Kennedy Ballow, Atlas Wolfheart, Landon Bynum (Megan) and Garen Bynum (Dee); and his great grandchildren, Elijah River McCullough, Stella Grace Bynum, Gage Bynum and Aiden Bynum. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 30th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Autry's Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home (1910 E Tyler St, Athens, TX 75751). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 1st 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
