He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Gast and Lauretta Gast; his wife Lillian Ruby Gast; his children, Richard Orville Gast III and Lisa Renee Gassiott; and his brother Stewart Gast.

He is survived by: his children, John Richard Gast (Margaret) of Houston, TX, Jack Edward Burnett, Jr. of Vidor, TX, Pamela Sue Anderson of Palestine, TX, Carla Kay Prescott (Jonathan) of Portland, TX and Rhonda Lynn Pate (Ronny) of Fred, TX.; and his siblings, Gary Gast (Carol) of Cape Coral, FL and Dawn Lauretta Gast of Pawtucket, RI.. He is also survived by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
