He was predeceased by : his parents, John Leslie Southerland and Mary Gladis Roberts Southerland; his son Gary Ray Southerland; and his brothers, Robert and Jerry Southerland.

He is survived by : his wife Kay Southerland of Breckenridge; his daughters, Carol Kuhn of Breckenridge and Ann George of Breckenridge; and his grandchildren, Brian Tribble, Scott Tribble and Katrina Jackson (Caleb). He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
