He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Valentin Cortez and Angelica Cortez; his siblings, Deborah Cortez, Olga Cortez (Julio Acosta), Malena Cortez (Mike Forbes) of Forbes, Oscar Cortez (Chayito Ipiña) and Valentin Cortez Jr. (Cecilia Peña); and his nieces and nephews, Valeria Calderon Cortez, Estefany Cortez Ipiña, Alex Cortez, Moises Cortez, Gabriel Cortez, Oscar Cortez Ipiña, Martin Garcia Cortez, Andres Garcia Cortez, Michael Forbes and Paul Forbes.

Visitation was held on Monday, February 5th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home (657 Springmart Blvd, Brownsville, TX 78526). A prayer was held on Monday, February 5th 2024 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens (4464 Old Port Isabel Rd, Brownsville, TX 78526).
