He was predeceased by: his parents, George Benson and Edith Benson; and his close friend Charles Spearman. He is survived by: his children, Tonya Benson (Saul), Tammy Telles (Gary) and Tony Benson; his siblings, Gary Benson (Brenda) and Teresa Gowin (Johnny) of Brownwood, Texas.; his grandchildren, Brandon Keel, Jason Keel (Megan), Eric Ross, Anthony Ross (Sarah), Mia Williams (Randall), Colter Maddox and Chastity Logan; his great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Zoe Keel, Cynderin Ross and Yvette Ross; and his friend Renetta Blackstock (Tex). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, July 31st 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brownwood Funeral Home (2512 Belle Plain St, Brownwood, TX 76801). A funeral service was held on Friday, August 1st 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Hope Church (2202 Center Ave, Brownwood, TX 76801).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Shriners Children's Hospital.
