He was predeceased by : his parents, Velma Love Thomas and Jesse Manfield Sanford; his siblings, Dean, Juanita and Dorothy; his former life partners, Virginia Welch Sanford and Maxine Buchanan; and the mothers of children, Elaine and Kellye.
He is survived by : his children, Kimberly (Joel Smith), Kenneth (Valarie Loveless), Elaine Zubiaga (Julio Zubiaga) and Kellye Sanford (John Fritz Lanham). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
