“I just learned of David's death. We knew each other in 1961-1962 in Los Angeles when we were in graduate school at UCLA. David was one of the kindest souls ever. He had a sensitive exploratory mine. His interests were vast. He introduced me to the music of Thelonius Monk and James Brown, both of whom we saw together live. I became a songwriter in Nashville, and he became a college professor. He was a true friend and is missed by many. There was much love in his heart. - James Talley”
