He was predeceased by : his parents, Juan Mendez and Maria Del Carmen Mendez; his stepfather Avelino Jose Lujan; and his siblings, Perlita Lujan, Blanca Estella Garza and Avelino Jose Lujan III.

He is survived by : his wife Virginia Janet Mendez; his daughters, Erika Leigh Mendez-Davis (Adrian) and Jenna Lee Mendez; his grandchildren, Aston and A'brie Davis; and his siblings, Margaret Headen, Juanita Lujan, Juan Manuel Mendez and Gustavo Mendez. He is also survived by many relatives, nieces, and nephews.

He went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
