He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Merrill and Maxine Merrill of Corpus Christi; and his father-in-law Dub Miller of Corpus Christi. He is survived by: his wife Twila Merrill; his children, Justin Merrill (Jamie) of Corpus Christi and Chantal Merrill of Corpus Christi; his brother Jack Merrill (Tina) of Corpus Christi; his mother-in-law Imogene Miller of Corpus Christi; his brother-in-law Leroy Darrow of Corpus Christi; and his grandchildren, Brandon, Knate, Autumn and Zane. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
