He was predeceased by : his parents, Owen Axtell and Lola Axtell (Goad). He is survived by : his wife Mavis Axtell; his children, Ruth Anne Culver of Mesquite, Gene Axtell (Carol) of Fayetteville, Cindy Parker of Austin and Mark Hughes of Mesquite; and his siblings, Annibell Petty, Dorothy Allen and Howard Axtell. He is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
