He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Schimmer and Florence Schimmer; his wife Janie Roper; his children, John David Schimmer and Libby Madison (Jackie Harrison); his grandchildren, Collin (Brooke Madison), Kyle (Katie Madison), Jessie Harrison, Travis Harrison, Davis Madison, Hannah Schimmer and Maggie Harrison; and his great grandchildren, Ellie Madison, Luke Madison and Savannah Madison.
