He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus Taylor Higginbotham, Sr. and Sybil Elizabeth Johnson Higginbotham; and his sisters, Elizabeth Higginbotham McKee and Carolyn Gene Higginbotham Schley. He is survived by: his wife Lou Ann Jordan Higginbotham of Dallas; his children, Elizabeth Elliott Higginbotham Hertel (Kris Hertel) of Fort Worth, Laura Michelle Higginbotham Dwyer (Taylor Dwyer) of Austin, Rufus Taylor Higginbotham III (Helene Zeiler Higginbotham) of Irving and Andrew Benjamin Higginbotham (Erin Sistrunk Higginbotham) of Southlake; and his grandchildren, Katherine Elliott Hertel (Ellie), Kristine Elizabeth Hertel (Kiki), Riley Grace Higginbotham, Jessie Anna Higginbotham, Juliette Rose Higginbotham, Jordan Rich Dwyer and Judson Paul Dwyer.
