Cheryl Kay Gillespie Obituary

We are sad to announce that on June 9, 2025, at the age of 80, Cheryl Kay Gillespie of Denton, Texas passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

Though her name may fade from the lips of time, the imprint Cheryl Kay leaves upon the hearts of her loved ones remains eternally vivid — a testament to the depth of her spirit and the richness of her legacy.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Bernice Hopkins and Wayne Hopkins; her brother George Kenneth Hopkins; and her nephew George Kenneth Hopkins, Jr.. She is survived by: her husband Dr. James E. Gillespie. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents house with her aunt, uncle and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 26th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Cole Chapel at First United Methodist Church (201 S Locust St, Denton, TX 76201).

If you wish, donations in her memory may be made to the UNT College of Music James E. Gillespie Clarinet Scholarship, to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee or to the charity of your choice.
