Additionally, he served the public as an accountant preparing public and private tax returns; teaching data processing to students while employed at Cisco College; and later following retirement in Houston, Bob gathered data from residents for the United States Census in Eastland County. These numerous opportunities introduced him to generations of families in the area.

In 2001, he married Patsy Ruth Bartels, and in 2006, they gave up their careers and retired in Eastland to be near family and friends which he cherished.

During his full and varied lifetime, God and country were most important and held close to Bob's heart. While young, he and his family attended the Presbyterian Church in Cisco, and as an adult, he was baptized in both the Methodist and Baptist churches. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Eastland First Methodist Church. His political preference was Republican, and he was a proud member of the NRA.

His civic duties were fulfilled as a past member of the Cisco and Eastland Rotary Clubs for seven years, serving one year as president in Cisco. He was an active member of the Cisco High School Class of 1954 alumni and served as co-president along with classmate, Joe Ziehr, from 2006-2020. His class held many enjoyable luncheon meetings during and between the CHS 5-Year Reunions.

Bob's hobbies included woodworking, in which he excelled by crafting and marketing dining, game and end tables constructed of oak, walnut and mesquite as president of WOODCRAFT PLUS; additionally, he enjoyed making pen and pencil sets in wood and acrylic; his love of the outdoors was exhibited by hunting and fishing with family and friends; as well as traveling, which included extensive trips throughout Texas for business and many other states for pleasure.
