He is survived by : his wife Sandra A. Vela; his children, Eloisa Vela, Eliza Vela Newsom (Jesse), Edelmiro Vela Jr., Miranda Vela and Ayden Vela; his mother Elva G. Vela; his brothers, Eugeneio Vela, Alberto Vela, Adalberto Vela and Ricardo Vela; and his granddaughter Risa Newsom.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 8th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Legacy Chapels (4610 S Jackson Rd, Edinburg, TX 78539). A rosary was held on Wednesday, May 8th 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to National Brain Tumor Society or American Brain Tumor Association , in honor of Edelmiro's memory.
