Steven Andrew Ewing Obituary

EDINBURG – Steven Andrew Ewing, 64, passed away peacefully at his home in Edinburg, Texas, on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

Born in San Marcos, Texas, in 1960, Steve moved with his family shortly thereafter to Midland, where his younger siblings were born. After the death of his birth mother, Sharon May Tharp, when he was three, he was raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma, by his father, Andrew "Andy" Ewing, and his loving wife, Audrey Lou Ewing who, after adopting him, loved and raised Steve as her own.

Steve graduated from Muskogee High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from the University of Oklahoma. He began his career in tax accounting at Coopers & Lybrand in Oklahoma City before moving to Virginia, where he joined All-American Bottling and eventually became its Chief Financial Officer. After returning to Edmond, Oklahoma, he transitioned to the role of VP of Operations and Finance at a commercial tree farm, and later earned a Master of Health Administration from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. From there, he dedicated himself to hospital leadership, serving as CFO at multiple hospitals across Oklahoma and Texas, including roles in Oklahoma City, Pauls Valley, San Angelo, and Odessa.

He was married to Emma Montes-Ewing, with whom he shared a life full of love, faith, laughter, and adventure. Emma stood faithfully by his side and lovingly cared for him through his last chapter.

In his final years, Steve faced cancer with unshakable faith, enduring his illness with quiet strength, dignity, and hope. His last days were filled with the love of family, led by his devoted wife, Emma.

A man of many passions, Steve was an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking, skiing, cycling, canoeing, and campfire cooking. He also had a deep love for live music, especially jazz, and enjoyed theater and the arts. He embraced technology, was a dedicated foodie and world traveler, and had an insatiable curiosity for learning new things.

Steve gave back to his community through mission trips, Sunday school teaching, youth ministry, and taught classes at the local community college. He was actively involved in Boy Scouts as a youth, and later with his sons and was a former trombonist in his high school jazz band and a freelance photographer in early adulthood. His faith in Jesus Christ was at the heart of his life, and he led with compassion, intellect, and quiet strength.

Above all, he was a devoted father who taught his children to love God, love the outdoors, cheer for the Baltimore Orioles, show kindness, think critically, and embrace life with wonder.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Lou Ewing, and his brother, Tony Ray Ewing.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Emma Montes-Ewing; his four children with his former wife, Patricia Ewing - John Bradley (Bonnie) Ewing, Kevin Andrew (Alyssa) Ewing, Brent Christopher (Natasha) Ewing, and Kelly Patricia (Von) Mboya; his father, Andrew Norris "Andy" Ewing; two stepchildren, Miles and Emily Krabill; six grandchildren, Miles, Ruby, Luna, Tessa, Eden, and Zanzi; and four siblings, Terry Wayne (Shaun) Ewing, Stanley Alan Ewing, Tammy Kay Ewing, and Stacy Annette (Jim) Sprinkle.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., with a Memorial Service to follow at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Cremation took place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to causes that reflect Steve's life of faith and compassion: Student Mobilization (https://give.stumo.org), the ministry where his son Kevin and his family serves in Tokyo, Japan ; or Casa Misericordia, a shelter in Laredo serving women and children in crisis, an organization that Steve & Emma faithfully supported together.
