He was predeceased by: his parents, James Henry Ilse of Glendale, California and Mildred Berry Ilse; his brother James Dixon Ilse of Wharton; his son-in-law Bob Lowdermilk of Wharton; his granddaughter-in-law Brooke Tomanek of El Campo; his cousins, Ilse Miller and Nancy Miller of Columbus; and his nieces, Gretchen Ilse Waltz and Linda Ilse.
He is survived by: his wife Elsie Trcka Tomanek; his children, Nancy Ilse Popp (Craig) of Sugar Land, Carol Tomanek Treude (Karl) of Louise, David Tomanek (Brenda Jo) of El Campo, Kathy Tomanek McKay of Shenandoah, Patricia Tomanek Hollingsworth of Missouri City, Michael Tomanek (Brenda Jean) of Fairfield and Shirlene Tomanek Lowdermilk of Wharton; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Popp Burgess (Henry), Jonathan Popp, Katie Tomanek Smith (Maverick), Trent Tomanek, Brandi Tomanek Toman (Bruce), Brandon Tomanek (Mackenzie), Greg Danielson (Shayla), Nathan Danielson (Kelly), Karianna Treude Ottis (Matt) and Jason Brooks (Emi); and his great grandchildren, Brinley Toman, Cole, Hazel, Barrett Tomanek, Waverly, Wrenley Danielson, Iris Danielson, Andi, Jett Tomanek and Cora Rose Ottis.
Visitation was held on Monday, June 2nd 2025 at 9:00 AM at the St. John's Catholic Church (1843 Co Rd 469, El Campo, TX 77437). A rosary was held on Monday, June 2nd 2025 at 9:30 AM at the same location. A funeral Mass was held on Monday, June 2nd 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
Memorial donations in memory of Rod may be made to Wharton County Library – El Campo Branch.
