It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Haywood Matthews of Florence, Texas, born in Austin, Texas, who passed away on April 16, 2023, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his wife Carolyn; his children, Richard Dale and Deborah Lynn; his parents, Frank Matthews and Matta Matthews; his siblings, Inez Frank (Charlie), Odessa (Jesse), Melvin and Milton; and his siblings-in-law, Dee (Russell), Eugene and Bobby.

He is survived by : his grandchildren, Heath, Bobbi Matthews, Misty, Ron Coleman, Wesley, Brenda Lynch, Lily, Patrick Spears and Bonita Merryfield; his great grandchildren, Richard Scott, Ciera Matthews, Samantha Matthews, Justin, Jyscyiaah Matthews, Quinn Coleman, Caden, Noah, Max Cunningham, Stormy, Loren Lynch, Phillup and David Merryfield; his great great grandchildren, Weston, Adilynn, Gabriel, Emberly Jo, Jocelyn, Logan Matthews, Madison, JaeLani and Mylo Alejandro Matthews; and his sister-in-law Cinda Barden (Calvin).
