She was predeceased by: her children, Christopher Lee Burton and Dorothy Grismore; and her sisters, Annie Nelson, Dorothy Nelson and Tina Johnson.

She is survived by: her significant other Earnest Grismore; her children, Floyd Patricia Burton (Dorena), James Burton Jr., Tina Gamble (Bobby), Karolyn Grismore, Pamela Grismore Bennett, Sheryl Grismore Attaway (Corey) and David Grismore; and her siblings, Ida Mae Ware and James Johnson (Olivia). She is also survived by nieces and nephews; 24 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
