He was predeceased by: his mother Ruby Johnson; and his sister Nancy Turner. He is survived by: his wife Billie Johnson; his son Joc Johnson; his granddaughter Andrea Fletcher; his great grandchildren, Josh Fletcher, Keyshawn Barnes and Kobe Barnes; and his nephews, Kent Turner and Kyle Turner. He is also survived by great nephews and great nieces and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Texas Alzheimer's and Memory disorders research at Texas Health Physicians Group Dallas.
