He is survived by: his wife Lynn D. Heitzenrater; his children, Karen Wright (Dwyane), Gloria Ball Cain (Kerry) and Laurie Ball Valle (John); his sister Twila Ball Whitten (Larry); and his grandchildren, Kristina Wright, Kayla Cain and Lauren Cain.
An avid community supporter, he served as President of the 3rd Infantry Scholarship Foundation, President of the Audie Murphy 3rd Infantry Division in Texas, and an Ambassador of Peace between the United States and Korea.
