He was predeceased by: his parents, Will (Minnie Lee Shafer) and Lowake; his wife Amy; his former wife Barbara; his son Michael Shafer; his son-in-law Glenn Vance; his grandchildren, Damaris Taylor and J. Michael Taylor; and his siblings, Leon Shafer, Norman Shafer and Willadene Raley.
He is survived by: his children, Debbi Vance of Paige and Mark Shafer (Mary) of Houston; his stepchildren, Karen Doyle, Jimmy Cook and Donna Weir; his grandchildren, Annelise Jones, Alex Taylor, Quinn Shafer, Preston Shafer and Reagan Shafer; his stepgrandchildren, Sarah Young, Amy Church, Allie Peters, Cody Cook, Heather Seibold, Jeremy Weir and Ronan Baerg; and his great grandchildren, Evan Taylor, Aniya Taylor and Oliver Shafer.
