He was predeceased by : his parents, Johnie Wesley Bates and Flora Geneva Bates (Swafford); his sisters, Sharon (Buddy Nevill), Judy (Pete O'Rear) and Wanda (Larry Holstien); his grandson Michael; his nephews, Mickey Nevill, Chris Holstien and Adam Bates; his niece Sarah Kirkland; and his sister-in-law Tina Bates of Gholson.
He is survived by : his granddaughters, Jocelynn Bates, Riley Bates, Elizabeth Bates and Callie Bates; his siblings, Ricky, Debbie Williams of Waxahachie and Denise Black of Grandview; and his friend Glenda Pruner.
