He was predeceased by: his parents, Librado Sr. Canales and Trinidad Cantu Canales; his parents-in-law, Cruz Cantu Sr. and Margarita Buitron; his brother Jesus Canales; his grandchildren, Amber Lee Lopez and Omar Javier Magana Jr.; and his stepgranddaughter Criselda Marie Ramirez.
He is survived by: his wife Gertrudis "Lita" Canales of Hebbronville, Texas; his children, George Luis Canales (Alicia) of Alice, Juan Gabriel Canales of Hebbronville, Margaret Rose Graf (William) of Beeville, Jose Alfredo Canales (Alexia) of Hebbronville, LeeAnn Canales (Reynaldo Pena) of Freer, Becky Lee Salazar (Adolfo) of Hebbronville, Allen Michael Canales (Loren Kay) of Hebbronville, Katrina Yvette Trevino (Juan Gabriel) of Hebbronville, Stephanie Lynn Rosas (Michael) of Hebbronville, Anthony Lee Lopez (AloraLee) of Beeville and Myranda Lee Vargas of Freer, Texas; his siblings, Orlando, Jose C. "Cuate" Canales (Maria Del Socorro) of San Antonio, Texas and Esperanza; his grandchildren, George Canales Jr., Gerardo "Jerry" Lopez (Hannah), Alexis Vera, Draven Vera, William Graf Jr., Jesse Vargas, Aiden Vargas, Maddison Magana, Ilene Salazar, Adrian Salazar, Aliyaah Canales, Nathen Canales, Aaron Canales, Michael Rosas Jr., Avalynn Rosas, Bryson Rosas, Aubrilynn Rosas, Zander Trevino, Jo'Ethan Canales, Yareli Canales, Jose Canales and Elian Canales; his great grandchildren, Aroura Lopez and Madilynn "Snow White" Lopez; his sister-in-law Belinda Cantu (Virgina); and his brother Javier Cortez.
