He was predeceased by: his parents, Hubert Franklin Hawthorn and Josephine Vaughan Hawthorn. He is survived by: his wife Kay Roberts Hawthorn; his sons, Andrew Brian Hawthorn of Austin and James Franklin Hawthorn (Catherine); his grandchildren, James Franklin Hawthorn, Jr. and Lillie Rubye Hawthorn of London, England.; his siblings, Joseph Columbus "Lum" Hawthorn (Norma) of Beaumont and Emily Kate Hawthorn of San Antonio; his niece Anne Hawthorn Newton (Chris); and his nephew Zachary Hawthorn (Kara).
Today, the club serves more than 1, 500 members and holds numerous nationally recognized tournaments, corporate and charity events each year.
