He was predeceased by: his parents, James Albert and Lillie Mae Simon Gray; his brothers, Cleophus, Walter and Warren Gray; and his daughter Thelma (Virgil Gray Jr.).
He is survived by: his wife Novella Gray; and his children, Sabrina Ward, Dana (Orlando Gray), Jeffery Chandler, June (Dallas Cormier) and Joel Chandler. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
