He was predeceased by: his mother Margaret Heemer (Carswell); his son William Leonard "Tracy" Heemer III; his father William Leonard Heemer, Sr.; and his sisters, Margaret Lucile Waters and Eleanor Fredericka Eddings.
He is survived by: his wife Stella Jane Heemer; his daughters, Connie (Raymond Thompson) and Sheila Heemer; his brother Martin Heemer; his grandchildren, Charlotte Redd (Ryan), Melanie Rosenbaum (Allen), Rock Thompson and Melissa Scavelli; his grandson-in-law Albert; his grandchildren, Blake Mistich and Jennifer Phillips (Thomas); and his great grandchildren, Desiree Vasquez (Steven) and Addison.
When he worked for Riviana Foods, he contributed to the "success" of the Success Boil-In Bag Rice and they awarded him a plaque in recognition of his valued contributions to the Success Rice growth in November 1985 for the First Million Case Year. The Success Rice was donated to different ministries over the years, including Star of Hope Mission, Union Baptist Mission Centers, barrels sent to Guadalajara mission trips, and Roloff Ministries.
