He was predeceased by : his parents, George Cleland and June Cleland; his brother Douglas Cleland; his grandson Perry Don; his son-in-law Jimmy Niermann; and also Smith, III.

He is survived by : his wife Linda Cleland of Ivanhoe; his children, Greg Cleland of Pasadena, Sandra Meijer (Will) of Richmond, VA, Laura Fregia (Gary) of Ivanhoe, Lesslie Niermann of Conroe and Cherri Day (Michael) of Pasadena; his sister Diane Best of Houston; and his children, Paul Cleland of Ivanhoe and Cheryl Cleland of Ivanhoe. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
