She was predeceased by: her parents, J. D. Smith and Virginia Katherine Smith (Hightower); her husband Richard Julius Zuhlke; her sons, Richard "Ricky" Allen Zuhlke and Ronald "Ron" Charles Zuhlke; her daughter-in-law Melody Dawn Blackstock; and her sister Cleaun Newman.
She is survived by: her daughter Laurie Katherine Varner (Zuhlke); her grandsons, Reece Morgan Varner and Logan Keith Varner of Katy, Texas.; and her siblings, Dick Smith of Houston, TX, Jimmy Dale Smith of Melrose, NM, Randal "Butch" Smith of Melrose, NM and Kay Provincio of Las Cruces, NM.. She is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 8th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Chavez Funeral Home (830 5th St, Fort Sumner, NM 88119). A graveside service was held on Wednesday, July 9th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Melrose Cemetery E Center.
