He was predeceased by : his parents, Marion M. Atkinson and Annie Wallace Atkinson; his wife Jean; and his sister-in-law Mary Spreen. He is survived by : his daughter Jamie; his son-in-law Larry Brown of Kenedy; his grandson Dusty Brown (Julie) of Kenedy; his great grandchild Kate Brown of College Station; and his siblings-in-law, Ann Ransdell (Tom) of Boerne and Louis Spreen (Mary Ann) of San Antonio. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. or Pawnee United Methodist Church Building Fund are appreciated.
