Rodman Alfred Widing III Obituary

Rodman Alfred Widing III 47 passed away surrounded by family at the Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus in Quebec Canada, on October 7, 2025 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Rod was born March 8, 1978 in Tacoma, Washington to Rod and Leslie Widing Jr. He grew up in Edgewood, Washington attending Hilltop Elementary, Edgemont Jr High, Puyallup High School and Running Start at Pierce College. Rod was active in track and football. After High School Rod served a 2 year mission in Dontesk, Ukraine. He loved serving the people of Ukraine and was excited to use the knowledge of the Russian language with people he later met in the US. After his mission he graduated from Brigham Young University majoring in Political Science and minoring in Russian. With the Political Science major he was always up to a good debate. Rod loved meeting new people and learning about their lives. He had friends from all walks of life.

Rod had a strong work ethic from an early age. He worked in the berry fields, moved on to the bulb farms and later worked building fences and taking care of the property of Wes Rickard until he graduated from high school. Rod had been active in the scouting program. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Rod has worked as an electrician and was a member of the IBEW Local 46. At the time of his death he worked for CAI as a Senior Electrical Commissioning Consultant.

Rod loved his children. He never missed Mason’s baseball or football games. Rod is survived by his parents Rod and Leslie Widing, sisters Elizabeth (Aaron) Van Gieson, Katie (Andy) Rees, Lauren (Jared) Oldham and brother Michael Widing. He is survived by daughter Samantha, son Mason and a grandson. His grandparents Rod and Milly Widing Sr and Roger and Phyllis Buchanan preceded him in death.
