She was predeceased by : her husband Thomas Byron Smith; her parents, Ralph Everett Staffelbach and Cordia Lillian Lukert Staffelbach; her son Thomas Byron Smith Jr.; her sister Ruth Elaine Staffelbach James; and her siblings-in-law, Cleonna Smith Armstrong, Nell Smith Thompson, Jack James and Reg King.

She is survived by : her children, Susan Smith Howes and Hal Howes; her grandchildren, Rachel Howes Cosgrove, Patrick Cosgrove and Elizabeth Howes; and her sister Marian Smith King.
