She was predeceased by : her parents, Ira Johnson, Sr. and Savannah Brown Davis; her husband Edward Simmons; and her siblings, Eugene, Ira, Jr., Osby, Andrew, Frank, Rufus, Dorothy, Frederick, Avery and Omeka.

She is survived by : her children, Robert Sandles (Mary) of Houston, Linda Lee (Robert) of Huntsville, Wilma Velma Randle of Madisonville and Venise McGowan (Jessie) of Spring; her siblings, Carrie Franklin, Ella Turner and Rev. Dee Farris Johnson (Penelope); her grandchildren, Sharonda Green, Lisa Sidney (Orrick), Deshandra Jones (Quincy), Portia Outing (Cheryl), Oliver Owens (Tameka), Yolanda Jones (Gus), Ashaki Randle, James Randle (Sara), Terrace A. McGowan, Jasmine Oliphant (Kelbee) and Bryson McGowan (Lakita Williams); and her great grandchildren, Khadijah Johnson, Nia Jones, Xandra Outing, Makayla Outing, Devlin Owens, Tristan Sinville, Keelan Jones, Ashli Jones, DeMarcus Ross, Damien Whaley, Jamaniesha Whaley, Thomas Roundtree, Tyrenzo Roundtree, LaKendra Randle, JaNavia Randle, James Randle, Jr., Jaydon Randle, Ashton Randle, Kendall Randle, Kylee Oliphant, Jaxen McKinnis and Baylie Edward.
