He was predeceased by : his parents, Harmon Franklin Powell and Louise Powell; his brother Jimmy Powell; his stepmother Lena Powell; and his stepbrother Morris Gary, Jr..

He is survived by : his siblings, Joyce Watkins (Rodney) of Mineola, Mike Powell (Amy) of Quitman and Ronnie Powell of Quitman; and his stepsiblings, Ivy Jones, Sr. of Quitman, Danny Jones of Missouri and Glenda Hill (Kevin) of Palestine.
