After Governor Ratliff's retirement, she worked for Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn as East Texas Outreach Coordinator, then for Eric Wright and Associates, an Austin government relations consulting firm. Ms. Solomon served as president of both the Mount Vernon and the Mount Pleasant Chambers of Commerce. She was appointed by Governor Mark White to serve as a member of the Sulphur River Basin Authority. In 2001 she was selected to be the first recipient of the Betty King Award for Legislative Staff Service. Vatra Grace Solomon was born October 3, 1946, in Commerce, Texas, to Neal and Barbara Connelly Solomon. She is a 1964 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and earned her BS degree in elementary education and music from East Texas State University in 1968. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Nila and Louis B. Williams, Jr. of Austin; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Jennifer Solomon of Mount Vernon and her sons Jacob and Daniel Lambie; nieces Amy and Steve Bresnen, Mary Elen Williams and Connelly and Joey Breeland, all of Austin; great niece Kate Breeland; nephew Andrew Solomon and wife Kali Rogers of Los Angeles. CA. Also surviving are cousins David Bolger and wife Mary Lynn and Mary Rosalind Abero and husband Inaudi Abero and son Edu, all of Scottsdale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant.
