He was predeceased by: his parents, Juanita Rose (Barnes) and Frank P. Rose; his wife Suzanne "Suzi" Grow Rose; and his siblings, Alberta "Lolly" Darnall, Frank P. Rose, Jr. and Gladys Whiteley.

He is survived by: his children, Greg Rose (Weena) of Nederland, Texas and Shannon Shipp of Gladewater, Texas; his son-in-law John Shipp; his grandchildren, Eric Rose (Carly), Amber Shupp (Patrick) and Zachary Shipp; and his pet Charlie. He is also survived by his family, friends.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Val will remember him not only for his contributions to music education, but also for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering compassion.
